The Art’s Cafe is an expansion project of the Springville Arts Center that took a collapsed Main Street building and transformed it into a performance space, two residences designed for artists, an arts workshop, and a public green roof centered around a community-owned bakery-cafe.

Buffalo Obscura is very happy to announce that all three of Julian Montague’s large scale “Public Health Posters” have popped up again, this time in Buffalo’s Theatre District. You can see two of them in the windows at dPost, located at 678 Main St. and one at Buffalo Place, located at 671 Main St. A very big thank you to dPost and Buffalo Place for the use of their windows, and to Julian for creating beautiful art with an important message about keeping everyone safe during the time of COVID 19. On view until further notice. Learn more about the artist here: Montague Projects

We are in the planning stages for future in person events for 2021 as soon as it is safe to host them again.

With that in mind, we’re welcoming artists working in all aspects of the visual and performing arts to reach out to us at the link below and let us know if you’d like to get involved. We keep submissions on file and review all of them each time we plan an event. Our shows are one-night-only pop up events in obscure locations in and around Buffalo.

If you’re an artist, we’d love to hear from you, and please help us spread the word! Participate

2020 took an unexpected turn for everyone. Given the current state of the world, like many, we had to put some projects on hold and shift our focus to finding new ways to approach our mission. We are happy to report that plans are in the works for a multi-venue installation in July. We’ve been holding artists meetings via zoom and making preparations that we’ll be ready to announce very soon. Here are some of the artists who will be presenting their amazing work with us! Stay tuned for more information!

The word is out and we are here to confirm it. Our 8th pop up show is in the works. “The City Beyond the Falls: Pop Up Art Show” will be held on Main Street in the city of Niagara Falls, NY. We met with some of the artists today and planning is in the works

We would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out and helped us make Big Tent Revival: Photography Pop Up an event to remember. Also a big thanks to the artists who participated and helped with preparations all along the way. And to the Buffalo Obscura team members who work behind the scenes in countless ways to help us realize our vision, there is no way we could do this with out you! Special thanks to Daniel Britt who hosted us at Transfiguration Church, his passion project.

Big Tent Revival: Pop Up Art Event

We’ll be presenting Big Tent Revival: Photography Pop Up on the grounds of Transfiguration Church on July 26th from 6-11pm. As part of our preparations, we invited the artists and collaborators to visit the site and have a rare look and tour of the inside. The new owner, Daniel Britt, showed everyone around.

We’ve had several  Buffalo Obscura meetings recently with contributing artists for our upcoming show, Big Tent Revival: Photography Pop Up, scheduled for Friday July 26th in a soon to be announced obscure location near you. In addition to photography, we’ll have a series of short features involving large scale projections, live drawing, music and more. Stay tuned.

We are very excited to announce that ‘meet the bacons‘ will be joining us for, Route 62: Photography Pop up at Mackey’s Shamrock Room!

The acoustic duo of Joe & Robin Bacon are from Buffalo, NY. They draw influences from many great vocal duos, like Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Simon and Garfunkel, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris and Shovels and Rope, with music styles that cross classic country, rock, bluegrass, blues and folk (more easily described as Americana music).

Jim Cielencki, Molly Jarboe, Chris Hawley, Macky Moberly and Christina Laing at Macky’s Shamrock Room on Route 62.

Our next show is Route 62: Photography Pop Up. This will be a one-night only event at Macky’s Shamrock Room, 1634 Bailey Avenue, on Friday, April 5, 2019, 6 to 11 pm. The show will direct the lenses of three photographers and a special guest videographer toward Route 62, the only U.S. highway to enter the City of Buffalo limits.
