About Us

Buffalo Obscura is a photography collective founded by Chris Hawley, Molly Jarboe and Christina Laing. We host an ongoing series of photography pop up shows in obscure locations all around Buffalo. These one-night-only shows have so far involved some of Buffalo’s best city documenters in high profile, exceedingly well attended events. Participating artists have included well known and emerging Buffalo photographers such as Brendan Bannon, Gene Witkowski, Kate Stapleton Parzych, Joel Brenden and Lindsay DeDario. Each show focuses on a single topic related to Buffalo’s unique neighborhoods.
Show titles in order of occurrence to date; Buffalo East, Buffalo Works, Buffalo South, Buffalo’s Backyard and Main Street: a Photography Pop Up which took place at at the former AM&As department store at 377 Main Street in Buffalo.  Next up will be, Route 62, featuring work by three of the founding members of Buffalo Obscura; Chris Hawley, Molly Jarboe and Christina Laing who will by joined by a special guest.  For more information, click on the events tab.

The Buffalo photography pop ups are mission oriented and, best of all, a fun way to explore the city through photographs and off-the-beaten-path venues.  To make the art accessible to all, prints are priced at $25 apiece.
